What a great way to start the day. We are currently sitting in St Peters Square waiting for the Pope.
A great buzz of excitement as thousands if people fill the space
And here he is...

What a most amazing experience. The Pope sent blessings to all of us and extended these to our families.
God Bless

We then headed to Pompeii, very different to Herculaneum - far more tourists, busy and dry and dusty. However, wow what an amazing place
The ampitheatre
What an amazing tour of all the major highlights. Such an amazing experience to see ancient ruins, as yesterday interesting to see that parts of their way of life have continued through today.

Day 14 - Herculaneum

Another fabulous day as we embark on the Ancient History component of this tour. A busy train ride to Herculaneum was had being entertained by Gypsies as they sang for us along the way. Of course the cup was being passed around at the end!
What an amazing time we then had discovering this ancient city.
An ancient store
Grand pillars
Hard to imagine this amazing place was buried in 79AD.
We then enjoyed a visit to the National Archeological Museum of Naples. Amazing to think cooking implements we use today are similar to those used over 2000 years ago.
We are currently relaxing back at the hostel, kids working on their journals. The kids have been outstanding in their work. Well done guys!

Tonight we had a beautiful traditional meal. Bellisimo!

Day 13 -Innsbruck to Napoli

Yesterday we set off on the overnight train to Naples from Innsbruck Austria. What an adventure! Train was running late- missed connecting train from Roma to Napoli. However, we were able to get the next train and at speeds of 300km/hr we arrived in no time
Wow what a busy city when we arrived in Naples. The extreme opposite to the beautiful Austrian alps!!! Busy, dirty and hawkers at every step.. However, we had a quick shower and set off to explore the historic sites of this amazing city.
The Castle Nuovo
The wonderful ride on the funicolare.
To the Castel Sant Elmo
What a magnificent view of the Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvious
And of course to top off another fantastic day a traditional Napoli Pizza!

Day 12 - Last of Germany

Beautiful morning view from our hostel
We spent the morning at the Documentation Centre at Obersalzberg learning about the area where Hitler spent his holidays from 1923. It was used as the perfect place to promote Hitler and propaganda portrayed him as something he was not.
Only a few buildings remain in this area as it was bombed heavily by America in 1945.

We then went underground to explore the tunnels and bunker which were built to hide Hitler and connect him to various buildings close by.  This was a very educational visit and we gained a lot from it.
We then went on a walk that Hitler took daily, crowds followed him as he made his way to a tea house. However our best ever tour guides lost a little direction and we had a most strenuous mountain expedition!!
Feeling exhausted we hopped on the bus again to make our way to Innsbruck in Austria. We are waiting here to catch our overnight train to Italy.

Day 11 - Berchtesgaden

On the bus again

First stop today was Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial site.
This was a very confronting experience as we were reminded of the horrors that occurred during this time.

Then we moved on to Berchtesgadn through Austria and back into Germany! The alps were an amazing site to see as we drove closer. This truly is a beautiful country.
We took an amazing boat road on the Konigsee to St Bartholoma. This was a glacial lake and the views of the ice melt off the mountains was amazing.

It was the site of an old monastery
A little spot of shopping

Another fantastic day finished off by a trip to the thermal baths. This was a great experience of German culture in saunas and spas.
